Entry #214
The Academy was closed today...I didn't think it'd be closed for New
Year's. Or maybe it was something else. George was over but there was
no sparring. Did a push-up workout and some shadowboxing. Light stuff,
unfortunately. Hope to kick my ass at the gym with my new routine to
make up for it. Meals were inconsistent again.

Will be starting a new routine come Monday. Thanks go to Jared for clueing me in on it.
Making a habit of waking up earlier so I can fit another meal or two
in. Yeah, the time frame is the same since I'm going to bed earlier,
too, but I can't cook or use the blender late at night.
Muay thai lesson is tomorrow.

Decided to opt out of lifting because I'm just going to do it tomorrow
at the gym. Played the boxing minigame and the Virtua Fighter game for
Eyetoy on PS2, so I got some good shadowboxing in for today.

Forgot about Christmas Eve. Ruined my schedule. Obviously gym was
called off today, but surprisingly George wanted to hang out. Was
itching for a fight but I didn't want to challenge him on the holidays.
I'm getting soft. We played Serious Sam and goofed off, etc etc. All
that I accomplished for training today was some shadowboxing. The videogame was pretty funny, though. I didn't
eat particularly well, either.

A very reputable friend of mine recommends that I ditch the Kickboxing
Academy and join Cung Le's school. I'm split. On one hand, I trust his
judgement more than anyone else on the planet when it comes to martial
arts, but if I take his advice I won't be able to practice jiu jitsu,
anything on the ground, since Cung Le's is all striking.
Today was break day. Literally, break day. Helped my dad move some
furniture around, and I was able to destroy spare parts. I demolished
an entire wooden bed frame with my fists. My hands are sore, but I can
grip fine, so gym is still on for tomorrow.

Back in the game. I'm redoing the Muscle and Fitness power program. I
never got to finish it due to an early back injury. Feels good doing
powerlifting stuff after fooling around on bodybuilding routines for a
while. Worked the heavy bag a few hours later. I can't help but notice
that I have absolutely no clue on what to do for footwork, but that
shouldn't be a problem. My muay thai lesson is Friday. Water intake was
very good today. Chugged a gallon in an hour at the gym.

Beat my push-ups record. For future reference, I'm up to 53 push-ups
(compared to 40). I'm gaining weight so I wonder how long that will
last. Still haven't taken a muay thai course. I plan on destroying the
weights with a Westside Power program tomorrow. It's been too long.

Day 1 of Jiu-Jitsu training. Attended a free lesson. Warm-up was the
standard jog, jumping jacks, and push-up routine we all know from PE
classes. Kinda surprised there wasn't any stretching; maybe I should
take the initiative and do that next time before I leave for training.
The class seemed to have all age groups, but even the little girls were
working their asses off. Awesome. I was paired up with another beginner
my size and after having some drills demonstrated to us, we tried it
out on our own. Unfortunately my lack of BJJ knowledge limits me from
accurately describing in words what we did, but basically it was a
crossover to an armbar. Also practiced breaking through his guard with
a...hell, I'm not even going to try. I did a lot of watching, too.
I landed on my wrist at one point and I found myself unable to do
endurance training tonight. Feels like a one or two-day thing, though,
so I'm not worried. Just gotta be more careful. And the back of my head
feels like it got hit by a baseball bat from all the slamming. Forget the
skatepark, I need a helmet for this thing.  Next is a free muay
thai lesson, and then I'm in.

I decided to wait a day and go back tomorrow. The time I was planning
on today would be a boxing lesson. That'd kick ass, but I want to go
for a BJJ lesson since I've never done any ground training. Will update
later tonight after endurance training.

Paid another visit to the Kickboxing Academy. My free lesson starts
whenever. Gonna try to make it tomorrow and then continue regular lessons from
here on out. It includes both Muay Thai and BJJ. Not sure how to work
lifting in my schedule, but I'll find a way.
Haven't gotten much lifting done as of late. Today I relied on workout
1 from trainforstrength.com. Either my muscle endurance has gone down
or gaining weight makes a bigger difference than I thought, because I
wasn't able to do my max number of push-ups.

Just got back from checking out the Kickboxing Academy. Unfortunately,
it was closed. Should have payed more attention to the schedule. From
what I could see through the window it looked pretty sweet. The place was packed
with boxing rings and punching bags. I'm calling it a day, but I'll be
back tomorrow at an earlier time. Maybe I can even start my free lesson
tomorrow. It's also right across the street from a gym, so perhaps it would be more convenient to switch where I lift.

Anxious to hit the weights tomorrow. Took a week off and I'm
practically dying from boredom. Meal plan went decently today. Shoved
down three big Costco hotdogs for dinner. Only had four meals in all,
however. They were big, but I can do better. For today all I did was
run to the videostore and back. Cardio felt strong.
After looking it over it looks like I have an opportunity to take muay
thai and BJJ lessons simultaneously. Couple this with lifting and
school, and it looks like my days are numbered. NOT TO MENTION DBZ. I can only be thankful
I have 0 social life to lose, haha.
